Tomorrow, one of our CrossFit 0930 regulars (and CrossFit trainers), Heather Adler, will be having a preventative bi-lateral mastectomy with direct to implant reconstruction at Inova Fairfax. Heather recently learned she is positive for the BRCA1 breast cancer gene. This result, in concert with several of her immediate family members having had breast cancer, makes Heather's risk astronomically high. If you know Heather, she isn't patient by a long shot and is doing this immediately to eradicate her risk. Please help us wish her a speedy recovery below - and promise to watch over Greg and their boys too, since they mean more to her than anything in this world. If you would like to sign up to receive updates, click this link https://www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/711791/ … It is a Lotsa Helping Hands site set up by a family friend to help Greg and Heather over the next month or two, not to mention should have the most recent information on how Heather is doing. Thanks for all of the support you've already given! Merry Christmas and Happy New 2014 to everyone!!

Show your family, friends and coworkers how you stay fit! The first Saturday of every month will be our Bring-A-Friend Day. Bring your friends, family members, neighbors, co-workers to any of our classes that day and let them experience the “joy” that is CrossFit! We will be having a fun and a little more “beginner friendly” workout, but don’t worry you will still get a good workout! If you know someone who is curious about what you’re doing, and why you’re looking so good, bring them on in! It’s FREE! Just remember to arrive 10-15 minutes before the class starts so they can fill out a waiver and warm up with you!!!

Many of you outside of the 6am class may not know Tommy, but he's been working incredibly hard over the past year to make some big changes to his health and fitness. We couldn't be any more proud of his success! "A little over a year ago I made the conscious choice to finally get healthy. I joined a Crossfit gym (CrossfitRVA) and started eating better (portion control, better choices etc.) Today I reached my goal weight of 185 lbs., down 77 lbs since starting this adventure and 8 inches off my waist (the pants I am wearing in the pic are a 42 waist). Needless to say I am extremely excited about where I am at."

W.O.D. 7.11.14 Gymnastics Focus: Eccentric Ring Holds (Advanced) Do three sets of eccentric holds on the rings. Get a 24 inch box and set it about 2 feet in front of the rings. Have the rings set about 30 inches from the ground. Lay on the ground with your feet on the box and using a false grip, pull yourself to the rings and touch your chest with the rings. You should be parallel to the ground at this point in time. Hold this position as LONG as possible and resist gravity until you are completely extended at the elbow…at this point in time, try to pull yourself to touch the rings again. Ring Rows (Novice) Three sets of 10 reps changing the angle of your body and challenging yourself or putting your feet up on the box for an enhanced stimulus.
